GEMMO team has extensive expertise in interventions on advancing democracy in Pakistan. It has implemented several projects across Pakistan from different platforms awarded by various donors. The purpose of the project was to increase focus on more representative citizens’ groups for greater community buy-in; ensure increased participation of women and other socially marginalized section of society, and to create synergies with organizations working on similar issues. The primary focus of the program was to develop new and strengthen existing relationships between rights-holders and duty-bearers, to enable citizens’ voices to be channeled into administrative, regulatory and legislative reforms, enabling improved electoral, legislative and local governance.

GEMMO team was part of the intervention focused on the CNIC and Voter Registration to create awareness in community to understand the importance of national identification and importance of vote in democratic process of the country. Monitoring local governance phase of the project required to collect information about various aspects of local governance at the district level against the standardized checklist provided by FAFEN Secretariat. GEMMO team also touched upon the marginalized community and enlisted those people who have not registered themselves as citizens of Pakistan. Materials that have been distributed in the meetings are banner, brochures, vote application form and CNIC guise details. Advocacy activities include press briefings, meetings with elected representative, engaging with relevant stakeholders, voting age youth, campaigns, meeting with women and religious leaders.
